Our Board is responsible for guiding the Foundation’s strategic direction, exercising financial responsibility and policy making. The Board oversee the role of the Chief Executive Officer, who has management for the day-to-day operations of the organisation.

Michael joined the Board of the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation in 2020. As a Chartered Accountant and former partner at Accru Hobart, he brings a wealth of financial expertise to the Foundation. He currently works in an advisory capacity, assisting accounting and financial planning businesses reach their full potential. Michael brings extensive Board experience and sits as the current chair of St Joseph Affordable Homes.
Hayden is a seasoned professional with a distinguished career in the insurance broking industry. With over 24 years’ experience, he served as the former Managing Director of Armstrong's Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd. He joined the Board of the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation in late 2021 and brings valuable expertise to the Foundation’s initiatives.
Nick is the Managing Director of Symic Pty Ltd, a private investment company specialising in venture capital, property development and equity investment. With extensive experience in financial planning and stockbroking, Nick led the successful merger of 14 leading independently owned financial advisory firms to form Shadforth Financial Group. Proudly serving on the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation Board since 2020, Nick contributes his expertise in investment and financial decision-making to support medical research.
Kathryn is a healthcare management professional with over 18 years of experience in senior roles within leading private hospitals around Australia. As the CEO of the Hobart Private Hospital, Kathryn mentors future leaders, manages hospital operations, and oversees key stakeholder management. Having joined the Board of the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation in 2019, she remains committed to ensuring Tasmania’s medical research capacity remains well-resourced well into the future.
Leani is an accomplished Human Resources professional, having held roles public and private healthcare industries in Australia and overseas. She is currently the Director of Operations at the University of Tasmania for the College of Health and Medicine. Leani joined the Board in 2022 and is using her extensive experience in corporate governance and human resources to elevate the Foundation.
Professor Zosky, a respected biomedical researcher, joined the Foundation’s Board in 2023. He brings extensive scientific insight to the Board, as the Associate Dean Research at the College of Health and Medicine at the University of Tasmania. With a background in respiratory physiology, Graeme has researched the origins of chronic lung disease and optimal ventilation strategies in critical care settings. He is an active member of global medical societies including the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, the American Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society and the Asia Pacific Society of Respirology.
Rosemary is a full-time clinician and the Director of Cancer and Blood Services at the Royal Hobart Hospital. She is the Deputy Chair of the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO), a member of the Australian Brain Cancer Mission Steering Committee, a member of the Tasmanian Cancer Registry Advisory Group and the Tasmanian jurisdictional representative for the Australian Cancer Plan. As the Chair of the Foundation’s Scientific Research Advisory Committee, she has a strong interest in clinical research and is an active mentor for early career researchers.
Alex joined the Foundation's Board in 2023 and brings a wealth of knowledge in litigation and dispute resolution with a focus on complex estate litigation. He is a partner at Butler McIntyre & Butler, where he works closely with executors, beneficiaries, and other interested parties to ensure that they obtain accurate and timely advice. Alex is also a member of the Law Society of Tasmania’s Litigation Committee.
Raz Haroon, as the Managing Director at Gloo Advertising, is dedicated to delivering strategic services tailored to enhance client growth trajectories. Appointed to the Board in 2023, Raz leverages more than 18 years of extensive domestic and international experience to the Foundation, offering profound expertise in business operations, leadership, and marketing strategies. Beyond his role at Gloo, Raz actively engages with numerous non-profit and corporate boards and committees, underscoring his commitment to driving both community and industry progress.
Francine, (Chief Nurse and Midwife - Department of Health) joined the Board of the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation in 2024. With extensive experience in nursing and midwifery leadership, she has held a range of senior roles most recently acting as Deputy Secretary Clinical Quality, Regulation and Accreditation. Francine is a former Chair of the Australian and New Zealand Council of Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers and serves as an International Commissioner for the American Nurses Credentialing Centre. Her expertise in health systems management, professional regulation, and strategic policy will significantly benefit the Foundation.
